Finishing up a few more paintings

Today we walked into town for lunch and some window shopping. We stopped to talk to Cappucine, the artist we met a few weeks ago, about yupo and masa paper. I had given her a few sheets of each to try. They will take some getting used to since she is a traditional watercolor paper painter! Then we walked home in the rain.

I have been working my wonky house series and here are 2 of them along with a photo of me in front of each house.  

The colors of the actual painting are much better in person. 

 

 

 

 

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!!

More Emerald Coast, Cancale, goat cheese sorbet

Today was GORGEOUS!!!! I drove us to Cancale on the Emerald Coast. The view is amazing. We stopped for lunch by the sea and my salad had goat cheese sorbet. Yum!

Houses and rainbows

It rained so hard all morning! But when it stopped Ron and I went for a bike ride to Lehon. Of course it started to rain again before it stopped again! This is now my new normal kind of a day. We visited the Abbey and climbed to the top of the castle. What a beautiful view! I can see the passage of time in this beautiful yellow tree 2 weeks ago and then today. I can't believe how fast time is going.

And at 4 pm (right on schedule!) we saw the brightest rainbow I have ever seen!

 

I am working on 6 paintings at a time right now. Here they are in various stages of completion.

 

Bon Dimanche. Good Sunday!

Today Ron and I went to a service at St Malo church. It was very nice. Beautiful music, magnificent old building, heat lamps and maybe a good sermon? It was in French so I'm not sure! 

 

Afterwards we walked to a few new parts of Dinan so Ron could check off all of the rampart walls on his map.

 

I took a few more pics of half timber houses and other things I will eventually paint. 

 

 

We stopped to get our daily baguette 'traditional' and back home to paint. Ron rode the bike along the Rance River path. Chili for dinner (it is French chili because it was made in France, of course).  This evening we walk, or drive since it is raining hard, to the Mercure hotel for our wifi fix and back to painting.  Just a normal wonderful day here in Dinan!

Our Art Reception will be on Friday, November 25 at 6:00 pm.  We have invited a few people we have met along the way as well as the committee who coordinated this residency.  We have quite a display so far but I have some more painting to do!  Back to work....

Sunny day in Dinan

Today was the sunniest day yet! We planned on doing some plein air painting in the town. I wanted to sketch the wonky houses again. So we packed up our plein air painting supplies and headed out. But, although it was warm looking, it was cool and breezy. Too cold to sit still for very long. Have I mentioned that I am a Fair Weather Plein Air Painter? I do not like to be cold. Sooooo I took plenty of photos with this wonderful sun and I will paint from them in our warm studio! I have a series going. I plan on painting many of the half timber houses. One is just about finished and here are a few others I have drawn so far. They are fun because they are naturally a bit wonky and the perspective is a great challenge too!

Market Day, castle tour, painting

Thursday is Market day in Dinan. We got more produce and things for dinners. Have I told you how great a cook Eileen is?  Here we are in front of something interesting looking. Cabbage?  Notice the hats we got last week. 

 

Ron went on his own to tour the town. He got to visit this castle and more of the ramparts while we painted. 

 

Here's an abstract I did on yupo.  I worked on it a bit more. Looks like Eileen influenced me a bit! But I don't know if it's done yet.  But it's a nice change from the half timbered houses I am working on. I forgot to take photos. Tomorrow.....
