“Tiny Tropical Treasures” will showcase the artwork that I created while on a tropical island in Brazil this spring. I was chosen to be an Artist in Residence at Casa Na Ilha on the island of Ilhabela off Sao Paulo, Brazil. This is my second Artist in Residency in the past two years and I hope to make this a regular habit. I traveled through the island with my pens, watercolors and many sketchbooks. Some sketchbooks are handmade. Some are concertina folded. All are small. The beauty and culture of the island life have been carefully and creatively recorded. From the tropical gardens, the ocean, wildlife and a beautiful island home with my artist friends, you will enjoy Ilhabela Island vicariously through my Tiny Tropical Treasures exhibit.

The sketchbooks are creatively displayed in Gallery 5 so you can experience each day as I experienced it. Each day is a treasure to be revealed.
I hope to see you there!

To the Tres Tombos (Three Tumbles) waterfall!

Today is May 10, Mom`s Birthday. Happy Birthday, Mom! We finally got to see a waterfalls close up! Some of us even swam in it. This is the lower level of three for this falls. We did not go up any farther but enjoyed being here to swim and sketch.

Yes, that is a mermaid named Jane, swimming in a dress!

Cute little umbrellas for the borrachudas?!

My sketch of the day...

And now for today`s sunset pic from a different spot at the beach near the waterfall. Our final Ilhabela sunset for the month.

I`m coming home, Ron!!!! I have missed you!

Skipped a day of posting!

Last night we ventured out for a night of pizza. Well the pizzeria was closed. This led to an adventure! We ended up having dinner with a couple from London and a couple from Germany! What a fun evening it turned out to be! We did a wine tasting so I couldn’t post when I got home.

Ilhabela’s largest borrachuda. I think this is the one that got me!

We visited a sculpture garden today. Beautiful! Although it symbolizes peace, islanders have differing opinions!

Today’s sunset!

And a few minutes later...

Front row seats

Only one more sunset to go. I’ll miss this view!

Beautiful Monday!

The sky was so pretty today with the clouds and then the sunset. I am really going to miss this view!

Can you believe this!!!???? The last 5 were all taken within an hour as the sun set.

Terry and I found a new path to the sea today!

No art pictures today but many new things in the works! None are quite as pretty as today`s sky though.

Beautiful and Peaceful Sunday

Today we stayed in and painted. I know, big surprise! There was a wonderful cool breeze that kept the borrachudas away. A perfect day to spend in our outside studio space.

We are all trying to finish up a few more pieces since our days here are soon coming to an end. It has been wonderful (mostly, as I scratch and scratch my borrachuda bites!) and I have been very productive but I miss Ron and home. It has been great having WiFi to keep in touch with family from Virginia, Oregon, Connecticut and Bulgaria! And to share my days with all of you who are reading this! Thank you.

Here are just a few of the flower and leaf studies that I painted today. I had fun with line and design. Many are still in progress.

I also prepared some sketchbook pages with background colors. Ill show you the sketches I do on them when I do them.
It is very rainy this evening. It is peaceful except for this one banana tree leaf that drip, drip, drip, drip, drips on something loud. Not quite sure what it is landing on but I would really like to fix that.

Enough whining. Look at this sunset from earlier tonight!!!!! I will definitely miss this show every night.

Celebrating again?!

We had pizza and chocolate birthday cake for dinner tonight in honor of Denise`s birthday. The cake may look funny but it was delicious. I hope your wish comes true, Denise! Was it for more cake?

Today I drew many small studies of flowers, and leaves that are growing around the house or at the Santa Seiva Gardens. I`ll paint them tomorrow.

Look at this amazing cocoon! So beautiful and delicate.

Here I am resting in MY cocoon. Like the black socks? They keep the borrachudas away!

And today`s beautiful sunset.

Celebrating a Birthday!

Today we went to lunch at a special coffee shop with great desserts to celebrate Denise`s Birthday! Her birthday is really on Saturday but we are making it last longer.

So much to see and sketch and taste at Donna Bella!

Walking the path beside the beach.

It was a pretty day!

We passed a mermaid on the way there. Since Jane`s art often includes mermaids, we needed to stop for a photo, of course.
What`s in our bags, you ask? We found the art store and it was open! It is no Plaza Art but we found some good pens.

Added color to more sketches.

Not as dramatic as some days, but still a beautiful sunset!
